| There are a bunch of new CDs in the Musician’s Private Label Category, all of which are excellent. Just because musicians issue their own CDs does not mean they are inferior musically, on the contrary. | ||
John Souza’s "Meet Me In The City" is a marvelous example from one of Boston’s premier trumpet players. Backed by the Ray Santisi Trio and with special guests Greg Abate on alto sax, Leah Souza on vocals and John Souza III on trumpet. A wonderful CD. JSOU002.
Nick DeCarliss hails from Gainesville, FL. He is the closest cornetists to Bobby Hackett we have heard. A beautiful tone and marvelous execution. With a strong Hackett influence he is still his own man. Here he is with the thrill of that moment, backed by the Frank Sullivan Trio. Soft lights, soft music, a glass of wine and your favorite partner. DJ002
"Trombone Giants," a suite for four trombones is a tribute to past and present trombonists. All the tunes are composed by the great British reed player, composer and arranger, Duncan Lamont. All the tunes are perfectly executed by Greg Nielsen (tb) Harold Van Schaik (basstb), Matt Bokulic (p) Ken Fitzgerald (b) Chuck Parr (dr). Greg Nielsen does a lot of over dubbing and this CD is an absolute Gem, Foot Note Productions DNFLP122404.
Valerie Gillespie’s CD "Once Again" started out as a little girl on the alto saxophone in Pennsylvania. She never lost sight of what she wanted to do growing up, namely being a damn good musician. She succeeded! Here she is backed by a variety of musicians, the Central Florida Studio Orchestra and the Central Florida Studio Big Band. By the way, she sings too. Give this one a listen. This girl can play! GJRCD001.
Valerie Gillespie again with a CD titled "Branded." This time backed by a trio with Rick Steuart on keyboards, Eric Sayer on bass and Tim Belanger on drums. Some marvelous standards on this CD. A wonderful CD. GJRCD002.
This is Valerie Gillespie’s third and newest CD titled "LIVE." She plays soprano, alto, tenor, flute, clarinet and sings on this one. Backed by Rick Steuart on keyboards, Tim George on electric bass and Joe Renda on drums. We had the pleasure of hearing her in person recently and we can tell you, this young lady can play! GJRCD003.
The fabulous tenor player Tucker Antell who at 16 years of age is making his recording debut with "16 Years In The Making." Don’t let his age fool you, he is mature beyond his years. Here he is with Charlie Prawdzik on piano, Larry Trott on bass and Don Foster drums. We predict this young man will go far. DNFLP002.
Perhaps the title of this CD should have been "Old Meets Young", but it is titled "Sarasota Saxes." This group features Al Galladoro, who at 90 years young has done it all from being with Paul Whiteman’s Orchestra to recently having played at Breda Jazz and North Sea Jazz Festivals and New Orleans Clarinet and Jazz Festival. Al plays alto, cl, & bass cl. Tucker Antell on tenor (again at 16 years young) Backed by Charlie Prawdzik (p) Larry Trott (b) Don Foster (Dr). Golden Rooster, Vol. 1.
