NEWS FROM PUPPY JAZZ

In our last newsletter we said we would donate 10% of our gross sales to the Salvation Army for the Katrina Relief Fund. We are going to extend that until December 31, 2005.

This time we are also contributing to the Jazz Foundation of America through our association with Arbors Records. See the Arbors section for details.

We are also proud to announce a new record label from England, Bowstone Records. This label features the recordings of Mart Rodgers Manchester Jazz. Mart has been playing clarinet for over 50 years and leads one of the oldest bands in England. It is a trad band that takes forays into the world of bop tunes. A very popular band in England as well as many other countries. They tour extensively.

First we add some releases from Arbors Records
100% of the proceeds of this recording will go to the Jazz Foundation of America to assist New Orleans musicians to get back on their feet and to continue the proud musical tradition that has distinguished the city for more than a century. This CD features Jackie Coon, Rick Fay, Connie Jones and several other fine musicians. Jackie leads this group in spirited renditions of a variety of tunes. Arbors, ARCD19119.
Here is the long awaited Volume 2 of Ruby Braff and His Buddies from the Regatta Bar at the Charles Hotel in Cambridge, MA. Scott Hamilton, Dave McKenna, Gray Sargent, Marshall Wood and Chuck Riggs. Volume 1 was critically acclaimed and we are sure Volume 2 will also be that way. This is a fine live recording and shouldn't be missed. Arbors, ARCD19311.
The great bass player Earl May leads this group of guys consisting of David Glasser, Larry Ham and Eddie Locke. A special guest is Barry Harris on two tracks. These musicians swing their way through 13 tracks of familiar tunes. Arbors, ARCD19320.

From the Musician's Private Labels we have two releases:
This group led by Germany's Peter Buehr. Buehr has enjoyed much success in both Germany and the United States. Peter is from Germany and plays reeds and the rest of the musicians are from America. ADCO Records 0502.
The Detroit area has given us many talented musicians. Among them is Matt Michaels, a pianist, composer, arranger and educator. Here he is on a CD taking no prisoners. He is more than ably backed by Dan Jordan on bass (he spent 5 1/2 years with Stan Getz) and two drummers, Jerry McKenzie and Jim Ryan. Here they are swinging their way through thirteen standards. PBM004.

Now we come to our newest label in our catalog, Bowstone Records from Manchester, England. We told you about them in the introductory paragraphs.
Here is the group playing 18 tunes from their traditional and swing era repertoire. The group is backing the vocalist Marion Montgomery. This is an exciting group with a front line that hasn’t changed to this day. A lot of fun on this CD. Bowstone Records OWSCD2602.
The group swings its way through some obscure traditional tunes, some well known and some originals. We have vocals by Roy Chappell and Mart Rodgers on some of the tunes. Bowstone Records OWSCD2603.
The aptly titled CD Manchester Delighted is filled with joyous traditional and swing tunes. The band has much fun with this one romping through 16 spirited tracks of music. A gem. Bowstone Records OWSCD2604
A delightful CD with tunes ranging from Jelly Roll Morton's “Kansas City Stomps” to Sonny Rollins’ “St. Thomas”. The choice of tunes are excellent as is the playing by all in the band Bowstone Records OWSCD2605.
The group swings its way through some obscure traditional tunes, some well known and some originals. We have vocals by Roy Chappell and Mart Rodgers on some of the tunes. Bowstone Records OWSCD2603.
Some marvelous tunes throughout this CD played exquisitely by the entire band. The entire production is excellent on this CD. This is one of our favorites by this great band playing through 14 tracks of music. Bowstone Records OWSCD2606.

Koko Jazz Records has a new release:
This is the second release with Greg Abate. It is a tribute to the movie monsters we all came to love. Greg is backed by a marvelous group, Artie Montanaro (tb) Paul Nagel (p) Bill Miele (b) and Vinny Pagano (dr) It could be said that the nusic is haunting and spirited. Koko Jazz Records KJRCD003.
