NEWS FROM PUPPY JAZZ

We are featuring several new CDs this month. There are a couple from Arbors Records; two from IAJRC; one from the Musician’s Private labels; three from Continental and the remainder of the label called Piano Joys. You can visit our web site puppyjazz.com and view the entire catalogue. Several CDs are only available from us.

First we add some new releases from Arbors Records:
A tribute CD to Nat “King” Cole with Maurice Hines. A really great CD featuring some great musicians, Jami Dauber, Tanya Darby, Wycliffe Gordon, Lisa Parrot, Ralph Lalama, Karolina Strassmayer, Howard Alden, James Chirillo, Ben Brown, Bob Crenshaw, Sherrie Maricle and Frank Owens. Superb arramgements by Tommy Newsom. Arbors, ARCD19323.
An exciting new release, NEVER BEFORE ISSUED, by The World’s Greatest Jazz Band. A double CD of a live concert from 1971 from Manchester’s Free Trade Hall, issued in its entirety. Yank Lawson, Billy Butterfield, Ed Hubble, Vic Dickenson, Bob Wilber, Bud Freeman, Ralph Sutton, Bob Haggart and Gus Johnson. If you are a WGJB fan this is a must have CD. If you are not, you should still have it. Arbors, ARCD19343.

From the Musicians Private Labels we have a variety of things:
A salute to Stan Kenton byt Don Scaletta’s 18 piece big band, The Jazz Project, plus a vocalist. This is not a ghost band and it isn’t a re-issue, but a swinging hard driving big band as only Don Scaletta can produc. Very exciting CD. ARS NOVA RECORDS, ARC001.

From Continental records we have added three new releases. One is a double CD.
This CD was recorded live at Eddie Pawl’s Supper Club in Sarasota called Sullivan’s. It features several groups, Jerry Jerome and Kenny Soderblom; Jack Brokensha Quartet; Bob Snyder; Ernie Wilkins: Uptown Jazz Quartet and Eddie Pawl Quartet. All are fine groups and this will give you an idea how a Jazz Supper Club should be. Continental CT003.
This double CD is a long lost gem found in Eddie Pawl’s closet. It was recorded in September 1973 at Lido On The Lake in Michigan. A wonderful swinging quartet, which at times sounds like a big band. A great Double CD. Continental CT004-2.
Eddie Pawl playing with two Quartets. One from Sarasota, FL and the other from Detroit, MI. Some great players and some great music played here. Continental CT 005.

Next we have the balance of the “Piano Joys” Catalogue, and what a catalogue it is. We want to point out that the sound on the Rent Party Echoes series is not in hi-fi, having been recorded at private parties, but what music they all produced.
